HEATING SOLUTIONS

Gas-Fired Boilers

Gas-fired boilers remain a widely deployed heating solution across commercial, healthcare and industrial environments due to their reliability, scalability and compatibility with established hot water distribution systems. In many buildings, they form the backbone of central plant infrastructure, supporting consistent space heating and process demands across single sites or multi-building estates.

For Facilities Managers and building owners, effective boiler strategy extends beyond plant selection to encompass system design, controls integration, operational resilience and long-term asset planning. Whether maintaining existing infrastructure, upgrading end-of-life plant or integrating with low-carbon technologies, gas-fired boilers continue to play a strategic role within managed heating portfolios.

How efficient are modern commercial gas-fired boilers?

Modern condensing commercial gas boilers achieve 90-98% gross seasonal efficiency when correctly designed and commissioned. Efficiency depends on return water temperatures, load matching and control strategy. Maximum performance is achieved when return temperatures remain below 55°C to enable condensing operation.

Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) Systems

Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) systems are a standard heat distribution method in commercial, healthcare and industrial buildings. Designed to circulate heated water from central plant to radiators, air handling units and other emitters, LTHW networks provide controllable, scalable space heating across single buildings and complex estates.

LTHW performance depends on hydraulic design, pipework condition, emitter suitability and effective controls integration. As building portfolios evolve toward lower carbon operation, LTHW systems often form the foundation for phased upgrades, system optimisation and integration with alternative heat sources, making them a critical component of long-term heating strategy.

Image
How does an LTHW heating system work?

An LTHW system distributes hot water (typically 70-80°C flow, 40-60°C return) to radiators, Air Handling Units (AHUs) or heat emitters for space heating. It is common in commercial, healthcare and industrial buildings due to controllability and scalability.

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) are an increasingly specified low-carbon heating solution for commercial and industrial buildings. By extracting ambient heat from the outside air and upgrading it for space heating and hot water production, ASHPs offer an electrified alternative to traditional fossil fuel systems.

Successful ASHP integration depends on system design, building heat demand, electrical capacity and compatibility with existing distribution infrastructure. Whether deployed as a standalone solution or as part of a hybrid heating strategy, ASHPs support long-term decarbonisation planning while maintaining operational resilience across diverse building environments.

Image
Are air source heat pumps (ASHPs) suitable for commercial buildings?

Yes, particularly where buildings have:

  • Good insulation levels
  • Low-temperature distribution systems
  • Available external space

ASHPs are increasingly deployed in offices, healthcare and light industrial environments.

Air Conditioner Heating

Air Conditioner (AC) heating systems utilise reverse cycle heat pump technology to provide both cooling and heating from a single system. Commonly deployed in offices, retail environments and multi-zone commercial buildings, these systems deliver responsive, zoned temperature control while supporting year-round occupant comfort.

AC heating performance is influenced by system design, refrigerant selection, controls strategy and ongoing maintenance. When correctly specified and integrated, air conditioning heat pump systems can support electrification strategies, improve energy efficiency and provide flexible heating across diverse commercial environments.

Can air conditioning systems provide heating?

Yes. Most modern Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) and split systems are reverse-cycle heat pumps, providing both cooling and heating. They are highly efficient for zoned commercial spaces.

ANCILLARY HEATING SOLUTIONS

Radiant Tube Heaters

Radiant Tube Heaters

Radiant tube heaters provide efficient, direct heat to cold spots in a building. Ideal for large or hard-to-heat spaces, they offer even heat distribution, reduced energy consumption, and improved comfort in industrial and commercial settings.

Energy-Efficient Radiators

Energy-Efficient Radiators

From infrared and thermostatic panels to dual-fuel and fully electric systems, we work closely with your project management team to choose the right radiators for your space, maximising heat output while minimising energy waste.

Destratification Fans

Destratification Fans

Destratification fans improve energy efficiency by redistributing warm air that rises to the ceiling, ensuring even temperature levels throughout a space. Ideal for spaces with vaulted ceilings, they help reduce heating costs and enhance comfort.
