Sustainable M+E Solutions for Drighlington Church

The project involved the construction of a fully glazed extension to the church, creating a connecting annex to the main hall that serves as a multifunctional space and new access point. Built in 1845, the church buildings required an update to their mechanical and electrical systems, and the client was keen to leverage the cost-efficient and eco-friendly properties of sustainable M+E services.

Our solutions included the replacement of the old gas-fired boilers with an air source heat pump, four new air conditioning units to distribute and destratification fans to circulate warm air trapped in the high ceiling, back down into the hall. The lighting was replaced with LED, and BEMS controls connected to sensors were integrated to allow for automated individual room control over both the lighting and temperature from the heat pump’s indoor units.

“While we have undergone the refurbishment project, we were able to use the church itself so that we could continue our community activities. I have to say that Watsons have done a remarkable job, and I can’t praise them highly enough!”
