Reflecting on 2024

Reflecting on 2024

As we welcome the New Year, it's the perfect moment to reflect on a year of extraordinary growth, both as a company and as individuals. In 2024, we successfully completed numerous impactful projects, all grounded in our commitment to sustainable practices. As part of that commitment, we published The Path to Net Zero, a series of articles exploring our sustainable building services and emphasising the importance of energy-efficient solutions as we progress toward carbon neutrality.

Blending Tradition with Innovation

In the early months of 2024, we completed an innovative project integrating sustainable M&E solutions into a Grade II listed building. This included underfloor heating, mechanical heat recovery ventilation with BMS controls, and EV charging points, all designed to complement the building’s historical character.

At Drighlington Church, we replaced outdated M&E systems with high-efficiency, low-carbon solutions. As part of a major refurbishment, we constructed a fully glazed link connecting the church’s two main buildings, creating a versatile new space. Advancing the Healthcare Sector

2024 also saw us contributing significantly to healthcare facilities across the region.

At Eccleshill Hospital, we designed and installed energy-efficient M&E systems, including an air-handling unit, VRF system, and LTHW heating. These updates supported a new diagnostic centre equipped with advanced scanners and tools requiring enhanced electrical infrastructure.

In Shipley, our team upgraded a medical centre by installing photovoltaic panels, a sustainable heating system, and energy-efficient LED lighting, delivering a fully modernized and eco-friendly facility.

Scaling New Heights

Our largest achievement of the year was the design, supply, and installation of mechanical services for a flagship warehouse and distribution centre measuring nearly one million square feet. As the preferred contractor, we managed both the base build and fit-out phases, implementing cost-saving, sustainable solutions across every area, from the warehouse to offices, kitchen, and canteen.

Our work continues with reactive and planned maintenance services to ensure the facility runs seamlessly. To commemorate this monumental project, we’ve created a series of short videos highlighting the effort behind it. Here’s the first in the series:

In the Community

Charity

The community remains at the heart of our values. This year, we took great pride in supporting a variety of charities and community organisations through fundraising activities. These efforts truly showcased our team’s dedication, with many pushing past their personal limits to achieve amazing results.

In February, we celebrated the delivery of a state-of-the-art £1.7m Da Vinci X surgical robot to Bradford Hospital, designed for cancer surgeries. As proud members of the 100 Club, a networking group for local businesses committed to raising funds for the Bradford Hospital Charity, we were honoured to attend the unveiling.

Summer saw our fundraising efforts reach new heights. Nine members of the Watson team completed a gruelling Tough Mudder in support of Bradford Hospital Charity. Meanwhile, our fearless Finance Manager, Sarah Metcalf, took on a skydive followed by a zip line challenge, for which she was joined by Company Director Vincent Challenger.

2024 was an incredible year for Watson’s, filled with hard work, innovation, and meaningful collaborations. We’re immensely grateful to our wonderful clients for their trust and partnership. Here’s to another outstanding year ahead!
