HVAC & Mechanical Upgrades at a Medical Facility in Bradford

HVAC & Mechanical Upgrades at a Medical Facility in Bradford

Watsons Building Services delivered HVAC and mechanical upgrades at a medical facility in Bradford, creating a comfortable, modern working environment for NHS staff.

The project focused on installing energy-efficient ventilation, flexible air conditioning, and new WC facilities to support the operational needs of the new occupants while maintaining a clean, aesthetically minimal installation within the workspace.

Through carefully planned mechanical services integration, the units now benefit from improved indoor air quality, user-controlled climate systems, and upgraded welfare facilities, helping support staff wellbeing and day-to-day productivity.

Watsons Building Services supplied and installed a complete package of mechanical services, including:

  • 2 heat recovery ventilation units (one per unit) to deliver continuous fresh air while improving energy efficiency
  • Bell-mouth extraction systems and side duct air diffusers to maintain a clean, minimal visual finish
  • Single split air conditioning systems, providing both heating and cooling
  • New ventilation and AC control systems allowing occupants to adjust fan speeds, temperature and operating modes
  • New WC installation, designed to support the staffing levels within the unit
  • Mixer tap installations to ensure safe water delivery and prevent scalding
  • Coordination and installation of sanitaryware, ductwork and associated mechanical services

The primary technical challenge involved space allocation for sanitaryware and ventilation ductwork within the existing unit layout. Watsons Building Services worked closely with the ventilation and air conditioning manufacturers, and project partners on site to develop a layout that ensured:

  • Efficient routing of ventilation ductwork
  • Practical placement of sanitaryware
  • Long-term accessibility for maintenance engineers
  • Minimal disruption to the building layout

This collaborative approach ensured both system performance and serviceability were prioritised during installation, delivering a practical, energy-efficient mechanical solution that improves comfort, air quality and usability for patients and staff, without unnecessary complexity.
