Watsons Building Services were appointed to design and install the mechanical & electrical services installations at a new Mosque and Community Centre in Accrington, Lancashire.

The Mosque building consists of two storeys with the ground and first floor prayer halls being the focal point of the building. Linked to the Mosque building is the community centre which is over two floors and includes ladies and gents fatiha rooms, eating areas, a multi-purpose hall, kitchen, ablution areas and Janaza.

The contract included VRF comfort air conditioning throughout working in conjunction with mechanical heat recovery ventilation installations.

The ground floor is of the Mosque & Community Centre is heated by underfloor heating.

With the ablution area forming the main sanitary provision for the building, the domestic hot water load can have a high demand at peak times, most notably at Friday Prayers. Three high efficiency gas fired condensing boilers/ water heaters were therefore installed to cater for the demand.

Other services included public health, mechanical extract ventilation and a Trend Building Management System.

The electrical services consisted of LED lighting and small power throughout the building. External lighting brought the building to life during night time hours.

Intruder alarm and fire alarm systems along with cabling infrastructure for data, CCTV and a PA system was also installed.

South Parade is an evangelical, Bible-based church, which belongs to the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Yorkshire Baptist Association. The present formal membership stands at around 350 and covers a wide age-range. There is a total estimated church community of between 600-700 people. The wide variety of people in the church is reflected in the worship styles and ways of meeting.

Watsons Building Services Ltd were invited to tender for the removal and replacement of the old gas fired boiler plant and controls. The boiler plant served a mixture of old cast iron radiators, steel panel radiators, pipe coils and underfloor heating systems all serving the existing church and its ancillary rooms.

Watsons worked closely with Vaillant boilers to design and install a suitable rig that would fit into the tight constraints of the existing Plant room. The new boiler system was installed including all new pump circuits to connect to each existing zone.

The installation was carried out during the summer months without any major disruption to the day to day operations of the church and its staff.

The installation was completed on time and within budget.
